Give us some insight into your career as a tattoo artist?
As fun as it may seem and is, the truth is that it is a very demanding career. It takes a lot of time, admin, marketing and constant evolving to make it a successful career. The reward returned definitely outweighs the sacrifice. The ability to change someone’s physical and mental state of being is such a powerful act that I truly cherish.
When and why did you know this was the career for you?
One year into changing career paths and becoming a Tattoo Artist full time, I saw the positive impact tattoos actually have on my clients and this is when I knew I was on the right path.
What have been some of the highlights of your career?
My biggest highlight would definitely be opening up my own studio “THE MUZEOM”.
How would you best sum up your studio – The Muzeom?
The Muzeom is a collective of different creatives housed under one roof in a hygienic, unorthodox environment that strives for professionalism and uniqueness.
Given the opportunity to tattoo any one person, who would it be and why?
I would definitely choose the president. To be able to tattoo an individual of both influence and power makes the most sense to me because it inspires to others to see that tattoos do not have the stigma they once had.
What do you feel defines South African artists/ creators from the rest of the world?
South African tattoo artists/creators have a lot of charisma, which when tapped into, really does set us apart.
What advice would you give anyone wanting to get their first tattoo?
Stop overthinking it. Research the artist that you want to do your piece. Look for consistency, professionalism and someone you feel you would be comfortable with.
